Deadline is reporting that Daniel Craig is set to join Academy Award winner Halle Berry in “Kings,” a drama set during the 1992 Los Angeles riots that followed the acquittal of the police officers charged with the 1992 excessive beating of Rodney King, which was caught on tape.

The film will be directed by Deniz Gamze Erguven, whose recent film was the acclaimed, Oscar-nominated French drama “Mustang.” The foreign filmmaker will be making her English language debut.

The sites states that “Craig will play Ollie, a loner who lives in South Central — one of its only white residents — who befriends Berry’s character, a tough, protective mother who looks after a group of kids. When the riots explode in the city, Craig’s character helps Berry, who is secretly in love with him, try and track down the kids from the worst of the violence.”

Berry will next be seen in “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” the sequel to the 2015 film “Kingsman: The Secret Service.” Craig, best known for his current role as James Bond, meanwhile, is set to lead the Showtime miniseries “Purity.”
