Inspired by President Barack Obama’s first “date” with the First Lady, the touching and inspirational romance, Southside with You arrives on Digital HD November 29 and on Blu-ray (plus Digital HD), DVD and On Demand December 13 from Lionsgate and Miramax.
From executive producer John Legend (Academy Award® winner for Best Original Song, Selma, 2015) the film was written and directed by Richard Tanne, with Parker Sawyers as the young Barack Obama and Tika Sumpter as Michelle Robinson. It received the Rotten Tomatoes Certified Fresh rating, and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.
On a summer’s day in 1989, a law associate named Barack Obama used all his charms to woo attorney Michelle Robinson. Southside with You brings that magical encounter to life as it follows Barack and Michelle on a day-long date that takes them from an art exhibit to a screening of Do the Right Thing to an unforgettable first kiss.
SOUTHSIDE WITH YOU was produced by Robert Teitel, Tika Sumpter, and Richard Tanne. Executive Producers are Stuart Ford, Matt Jackson, Glendon Palmer, John Legend, Mike Jackson, Carrie Holt De Lama, and Tracey Bing. Legend also produced and performs the end title song for the film, “Start.”
The film was cast by Tracy “Twinkie” Byrd (Fruitvale Station, When the Bough Breaks, Jumping The Broom).
