Angela Bassett will make her directorial debut doing a biopic on her ‘Waiting to Exhale’ co-star Whitney Houston, as reported by TheWrap and THR.
Set for 2015, the film will be done for Lifetime Television and will center on the relationship between Houston and her ex-husband Bobby Brown, from the time they met at the height of their celebrity, their dating period and their up-and-down marriage. Throughout their marriage, their were several highs and lows as the couple dealt with fame and fortune.
‘Whitney Houston’ will be produced by the Sanitsky Company. Larry Sanitsky, who worked with Bassett on the Lifetime film ‘Betty and Coretta,’ will serve as the executive producer. Shem Bitterman, who wrote ‘Coretta’ is onboard as the screenwriter.
Bassett and Houston starred together in Forest Whitaker‘s critically acclaimed 1995 film, ‘ Waiting to Exhale.’ They were expected to do a follow-up to the film until Houston died on February 11, 2012 in her hotel room in Los Angeles. Bassett received several accolades for her role in ‘Coretta,’ including a Screen Actors Guild nomination for the Lifetime film ‘Betty and Coretta.’
