Black Women Animate Teams with Cartoon Network for First Black in Animation Awards

Black Women Animate has teamed up with Cartoon Network to bring the first ever Black Animation Awards on Sunday, Dec. 6. The virtual ceremony entitled Honoring Our Stories will celebrate the contributions and accomplishments of Blacks in animation.

Amongst the animators being heralded at the event are President of Streaming at Walt Disney Studios, Vanessa Morrison, winning the Trailblazer Award, EP & Director at Disney Television Animation, Bruce Smith, winning the Narrative Creator Award and TV Director with Experimental Filmmaker, Dr. Ayoka Chenzira, taking the Cultural Innovator Award. Receiving Lifetime Achievement Award’s are The Sugarcane Man director Tina Obo and Disney Television Animation director’s Latoya Raveneau and Carole Holliday. The event will also feature a performance from Steven Universe star and singer Estelle.

The first-ever Black in Animation Awards show comes on the heels of BWA Studios’ third annual Boot Camp training event on December 6, 2020 at 5 p.m. PST. To attend, register to watch at https://www.bwabootcamp.com/.
