Premiering on Saturday, Sept. 22 at the 2018 Los Angeles Film Festival will be the biopic Brian Banks, directed by Tom Shadyac (Liar Liar, The Nutty Professor, Evan Almighty) and starring Aldis Hodge (Underground) in the title role.

Written by Doug Atchison, who wrote and directed the critically acclaimed Akeelah and the Bee, the cast includes Greg Kinnear, Sherri Shepherd, Melanie Liburd, Dorian Missick, Xosha Roquemore, Tiffany Dupont, and football player turned actor Matt Battaglia.

Producing the film were Monica Levinson and Shivani Rawat’s ShivHans Pictures and Amy Baer’s Gidden Media. Banks, Brooks, Derrick Tseng and Neil Strum are executive producers.

In this inspirational drama based on a true story, Brian Banks (Hodge), an All­ American high school football star committed to USC by his junior year, finds his life upended in 2002 when he is falsely accused of rape. Fiercely maintaining his innocence and despite any evidence to support the accusation, Brian is nonetheless railroaded through the justice system and sentenced to a decade of prison and probation. Ultimately, with the help of Justin Brooks (Kinnear) and the California Innocence Project, Bank’s conviction is overturned in 2012, his name is cleared, and he is finally free to pursue his NFL dreams.
