The Daily Mail is reporting that Oscar winner Charlize Theron and If Beale Street Could Talk’s KiKi Layne will star in filmmaker Gina Prince-Bythewood’s adaptation of author Greg Rucka’s comic book “Old Guard” for Skydance Media.
The Old Guard” is the nickname for the oldest active-duty regiment in the U.S. Army, but the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment has nothing on the team of immortal soldiers at the center of The Old Guard. The group’s leader, Andy (short for Andronika the Scythian), has been alive since ancient Greece; described as very, very old — 5,000 years old and an Amazon from the Herodotus age.

Two of its members were on opposing sides during the Crusades. There’s a French Renaissance thief and the latest recruit, a new immortal – a black woman serving in the Marines names Nile. These characters have lived through many wars, but they’ve finally encountered a genuine threat to their survival: a sociopathic businessman who wants to discover the secret to eternal life for himself.
Rucka is reportedly set to write the script.
Prince-Bythewood directed the first episode of Freeform’s Cloak & Dagger for Marvel, which will return for a second season.
Best known for her roles in Mad Max: Fury Road and Atomic Blonde, Theron is no stranger to action films.
After making her film debut in Barry Jenkins’If Beale Street Could Talk, Layne will next be seen in Native Son, which will be shown on HBO after making its premiere at Sundance.
