Today, MGM Studios released a special behind-the-scenes featurette for the romantic drama Cyrano. The film stars Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), Hayley Bennett (The Girl on the Train) and Kelvin Harrison Jr. (Waves). The studio also debuted the song, “Somebody Desperate”, performed and written by indie rock band The National.
Award-winning director Joe Wright (Atonement, Pride & Prejudice) envelops moviegoers in a symphony of emotions with music, romance, and beauty in Cyrano, re-imagining the timeless tale of a heartbreaking love triangle. A man ahead of his time, Cyrano de Bergerac (played by Peter Dinklage) dazzles whether with ferocious wordplay at a verbal joust or with brilliant swordplay in a duel. But, convinced that his appearance renders him unworthy of the love of a devoted friend, the luminous Roxanne (Haley Bennett), Cyrano has yet to declare his feelings for her — and Roxanne has fallen in love, at first sight, with Christian (Kelvin Harrison, Jr.).
Cyrano is adapted from Erica Schmidt’s 2018 theatrical musical of the same name, which was based on Edmond Rostand’s 1897 play Cyrano de Bergerac. The film features an original soundtrack from Aaron and Bryce Dessner, with lyrics by Matt Berninger and Carin Besser. Schmidt penned the script while also producing alongside Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Guy Heeley Berninger, Besser, Aaron Dessner, Sarah-Jane Robinson, Sheeraz Shah, with Lucas Webb executive producing.
The film debuted at Telluride Film Festival and is set to hit theaters in Los Angeles on December 17 through United Artists Releasing, opening January 21 in select theaters nationwide.
