Exclusive: Minnie Driver, Aisha Hinds, and General Hospital’s Tyler Christopher join Gina Prince-Bythewood’s BlackbirdPosted by Wilson Morales

With production starting today in Los Angeles, Blackfilm.com has learned that Minnie Driver, Aisha Hinds and General Hospital’s Tyler Christopher have been added to cast of Gina Prince-Bythewood‘s Blackbird.
The film stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw in the lead role, along with Nate Parker, Danny Glover, Aml Ameen, rapper Machine Gun Kelly, Jesse Woodrow, and Sky Soleil.
‘Blackbird’ is the story of Noni Jean (Mbatha-Raw), a hot new artist who has just won a Grammy and is primed for stardom. But the pressures of success compel her to nearly end her life until she is saved by a young police officer. They fall hard for each other, despite the protests of their parents who want each to focus on their own career ambitions. But he might be the missing piece to unlock her artistic potential.
Driver, who was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Good Will Hunting, recently was seen in the British comedy film I Give It a Year and will soon star in the NBC series About A Boy, based on a novel of the same name by Nick Hornby. Hinds currently appears in CBS’ hot TV series Under The Dome and was last seen on the big screen in Star Trek Into Darkness. Christopher is best known for his current role as Nikolas Cassadine on ABC’s long-running soap opera General Hospital.
Stephanie Allain-Bray is co-producing the film with Reggie Rock Bythewood, Relativity CEO Ryan Kavanaugh, and New York Knicks All-Star forward Amar’e Stoudemire. Relativity Media will be releasing the film. Relativity president Tucker Tooley is exec producing with Matt Alvarez.
Shooting the film is Director of photography is Tami Reiker and the choreography will be done by Laurieann Gibson, best known for her work with Lady Gaga, Diddy, Nicki Minaj, and Katy Perry. Producing the music for the film is The-Dream.
