TV Guide is reporting that “Spartacus” actor Cynthia Addai-Robinson has been cast in the role of DC comics character Amanda Waller in CW’s Arrow.
Like the source material, Waller will work for ARGUS in the series and will appear in the sixth episode of the upcoming second season. Waller also runs the Suicide Squad in the comic books, a government sanctioned group composed of villains, which will be introduced in the second season of the series as well when Deadshot (returning guest star Michael Rowe) teams up with Michael Jae White as Bronze Tiger.
In addition to Waller and Bronze Tiger, the second season will feature even more comic book characters and will include Caity Lotz as Black Canary, Kevin Alejandro as Sebastian Blood, Bex Taylor-Klaus as Sin, and the series debut of Barry Allen aka The Flash later in the season.
Addai-Robinson played Naevia in Spartacus: War of The Damned, replacing Lesley-Ann Brandt in Season 2. Her TV credits include numerous guest appearances on various TV shows and a recurring role on FlashForward.
The London native isn’t the first black actress to take on the role. C. C. H. Pounder voiced the character in the movie adaptation Superman/Batman: Public Enemies and Pam Grier previously played Amanda Waller in the ninth season of Smallville. On the big screen, Angela Bassett played the role in Green Lantern, which starred Ryan Reynolds.
Arrow Season 2 premieres on Wednesday, October 9th at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
