The Hollywood Reporter has released the first set of images of ‘Fences,’ the big screen adaptation of August Wilson’s Pulitzer and Tony winning 1983 play.
Directed by and starring Academy Award winner Denzel Washington, Paramount Pictures, in association with Bron Creative and MACRO, will release “FENCES” on December 16 as a limited theatrical opening in New York and Los Angeles, followed by a nationwide roll-out on December 25, Christmas Day.
Based on August Wilson’s screen adaptation of his Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Washington will star along Academy Award nominee and Emmy-winner Viola Davis. Both actors are Tony Award-winners for their performances in the play’s 2010 Broadway revival.
Written by August Wilson, “FENCES” is the story of a one-time promising baseball player, now working as a Pittsburgh garbage collector, and the complicated relationships with his wife, son, and friends. The film’s ensemble cast includes Stephen Henderson (“LINCOLN”), Russell Hornsby (“Grimm”), Mykelti Williamson (“FORREST GUMP”), Jovan Adepo (“The Leftovers”) and Saniyya Sydney.
The film is produced by Washington, Academy Award®-winner Scott Rudin and Todd Black; and executive produced by Eli Bush; Bron Creative’s Aaron L. Gilbert, Jason Cloth and Andy Pollack and MACRO’s Charles D. King and Kim Roth, along with co-executive producer Poppy Hanks.
