Mandela Long Walk to Freedom - Idris ElbaFocus Features has acquired North American distribution rights to the action thriller ‘Bastille Day,’ starring Idris Elba and Adèle Exarchopoulos. The film will be directed by James Watkins from a script by Andrew Baldwin.

Bastille Day is a thriller set in Paris in which a rogue CIA must team up with an unsuspecting American con-artist living abroad to thwart a terrorist attack on French soil.

Philippe Rousselet is producing the project via his Vendome Pictures banner, along with Steve Golin, David Kanter, and Bard Dorros for Anonymous Content. Principal photography of the film is slated to commence later this summer.

Adèle Exarchopoulos 3Studiocanal is financing the project as well as handling international sales and will distribute the film in France, UK, Germany, Australia, and New Zealand.

Elba has numerous films to his credits and was a double Golden Globe nominee last year for his performances as Nelson Mandela in ‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom’ and his BBC miniseries ‘Luther.’ He will next be seen opposite Taraji P. Henson in producer Will Packer’s ‘No Good Deed.’ Exarchopoulos was the breakout star of the controversial but critically acclaimed ‘Blue is the Warmest Color.’ Both Exarchopoulos and her co-star Léa Seydoux were awarded the Palme d’Or at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.
