First look footage of Colin Kaepernick’s limited series Colin in Black & White debuted last night during the 73rd Annual Emmy Awards.
Scheduled to launch on Netflix October 29, the bold new dramatic limited series from Ava DuVernay and Colin Kaepernick stars Jaden Michael as a teenage Kaepernick and chronicles Kaepernick’s coming of age story, tackling the obstacles of race, class and culture as the Black adopted child of a white family.
The 30-second clip follows Kaepernick’s rise before reaching the highest levels of American football as an NFL quarterback and becoming a cultural icon and activist. The teaser also sees Nick Offerman and Mary-Louise Parker as as his well-meaning parents Rick and Teresa; and Kaepernick himself, who appears as the present-day narrator of his own story, guiding viewers through a robust and colorfully presented array of historical and contemporary contextual moments. You don’t know Kaepernick until you know Colin. The series also features Amarr Wooten, Mace Coronel and Klarke Pipkin.
Producer quote: “I’m excited to share this first peek into a project I co-created with the incomparable Ava DuVernay over the past couple of years. I look forward to the world meeting the incredible Jaden Michael, a young actor who plays me during my high school years, just a kid growing up in Turlock, California who wanted to play ball.” – Colin Kaepernick, Co-Creator and Executive Producer, Colin in Black & White.
SERIES DIRECTORS: Ava DuVernay (Episode 101 and all of the present-day Colin Kaepernick scenes) | Sheldon Candis (Episode 102) | Robert Townsend (Episodes 103 and 104) | Angel Kristi Williams (Episode 105) | Kenny Leon (Episode 106).
