With the release of his latest album ‘The 20/20 Experience’ in stores today, Justin Timberlake is making headlines in the film industry as well.
According to the New York Post, the singer is being considered for the lead role of Daddy Warbucks in Sony Pictures’ upcoming film adaptation of ANNIE.
The film role would reunite JT with his ‘Suit & Tie’ collaborator Jay-Z who will produce the film alongside James Lassiter, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Will Smith. It was recently announced that Academy Award nominee Quvenzhané Wallis will take on the title role of Annie.
Will Gluck will helm the project which is described as a “contempory” version of the musical and its book written by Thomas Meehan, with music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin. That project was based on the original Little Orphan Annie comic strip. Production is set to begin this fall for a 2014 release.
Gluck also directed Timberlake in the 2011 romantic comedy ‘Friends with Benefits’ that also starred Mila Kunis.
A representative for Sony Pictures has denied the casting news.
Timberlake will next be seen on the big screen in the Coen Brothers‘ “Inside Llewyn Davis” and the Ben Affleck film “Runner, Runner.” His recent stint as host and musical guest of Saturday Night Live delivered record numbers for NBC.
