Lance Gross and Zach Appelman have been promoted to series regular on Fox’s Sleepy Hollow, reports THR. Gross appeared in three episodes last season as FBI Daniel Reynolds, Abbie’s (Nicole Beharie) new boss.
Harvard educated and following training at Quantico, Reynolds quickly made a name for himself at the bureau with tenacity and political savvy. His assignment to Sleepy Hollow reunites him with Abbie.
Appelman, meanwhile, appeared briefly as Joe Corbin, the son of August Corbin (Clancy Brown), who was cursed as a Wendigo when viewers first saw him in season two. A Marine, tough and all-American, he joins forces with Jenny (Lyndie Greenwood) to look into his father’s work which will be an asset to Crane & Abbie’s mission.
“Lance and Zach are both very talented and welcome additions to our Sleepy cast,” new showrunner Clifton Campbell tells THR. “There are rich stories to be told with these characters and we believe that fans will embrace these new — and quite mysterious — developments in the Sleepy Hollow world.”
Gross is best known for his role as Calvin Payne on the TBS sitcom Tyler Perry’s House of Payne, which ran for 8 seasons. He was last seen in NBC’s Crisis as a regular. Coincidentally, Gross and Beharie appeared together in Matthew Cherry’s football film, The Last Fall.
Season 3 of Sleepy Hollow is going through some creative changes, moving from North Carolina to Atlanta and adding new series regulars Nikki Reed as Betsy Ross and Shannyn Sossamon (as mystery woman Pandora). Also Orlando Jones won’t be returning as fan-favorite character Frank Irving.
“Sleepy Hollow” was co-created by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Phillip Iscove and Len Wiseman. It stars Tom Mison as Ichabod Crane and Nicole Beharie as Abbie Mills as two unlikely allies who must band together to prevent the apocalypse. Kurtzman, Orci, Wiseman, Campbell and Heather Kadin serve as executive producers on the new season.
“Sleepy Hollow” will no longer air on Monday nights. It returns on its new night Thursday, Oct. 1 at 9 p.m.
