Larenz Tate, who recently recurred on Showtime’s House of Lies as Marty’s (Don Cheadle) brother Malcolm, will co-star opposite Craig Robinson in NBC’s single-camera starring Robinson and executive produced by Greg Daniels and Owen Ellickson, who wrote the script.

The untitled project centers on talented musician Craig (Robinson) with rough edges who adjusts to his new life as a music teacher in a big-city middle school, where he encounters teacher politics and the temptations of single moms.

Tate, repped by APA, Brillstein Entertainment and John Meigs, will play Robinson’s brother, Kevin, who is also a partner in their band, The Filthy Gentlemen. A talented and charismatic lady-killer, he’s never held a regular job and hasn’t woken up before 11 AM.

Prior to House of Lies, Tate starred as part of the main cast in season’s 4-7 of FX Network’s Rescue Me as Bart “Black Shawn” Johnston. His film credits include Love Jones, Dead Presidents, Why Do Fools Fall in Love, Biker Boyz, A Man Apart, and Crash.
