Currently in theaters from Marvel Studios is Captain Marvel, starringAcademy Award winner Brie Larson in the title role.
Directed by the writing/directing team of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, whose credits include “Mississippi Grind” and “Half Nelson,” the cast includes Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, with Clark Gregg, and Jude Law.
The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set in the 1990s, “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Lashana Lynch plays Maria Rambeau, one of Carol’s oldest friends. She’s a top-notch Air Force pilot with the call sign “Photon,” and she’s also a single mother to a young daughter.”
Captain Marvel marks the biggest role to date for Lynch, a Shondaland alum, who starred in the short-lived ABC period drama Still Star-Crossed. Lynch, who was awarded the Laurence Olivier Bursary while a student at AES, has also appeared in indie features Fast Girls and Brotherhood.
