Variety is reporting that Mike Colter and Larenz Tate have joined the cast of Universal Pictures’ “Girl Trip,” which will be directed by Malcolm D. Lee, and produced by Will Packer.
The duo join Regina Hall, Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett Smith
Universal Pictures will release the film on released on Friday, August 11, 2017.
When four lifelong friends travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival, sisterhoods are rekindled, wild sides are rediscovered, and there’s enough dancing, drinking, brawling and romancing to make the Big Easy blush.
Will Packer, via his Will Packer Productions banner, will be producing the comedy. Kenya Barris and Tracy Oliver, the same screenwriters of Lee’s Barbershop: The Next Cut, will be working on the film as well. James Lopez, head of motion pictures for Will Packer Productions, will executive produce the new, untitled Girl Trip project.
Colter will next seen as Luke Cage in his own series on Nexflix’s next comic book TV series Marvel’s Luke Cage. He’s also best known for his other TV roles as Lemond Bishop in The Good Wife, and Malcolm Ward in “Ringer.” His last appearance in a film was Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty and was featured in Clint Eastwood’s Oscar winning film Million Dollar Baby.
Last seen on the TV series Game of Silence and on House of Lies, Tate’s film credits include, Menace II Society, Dead Presidents, Love Jones, Why Do Fools Fall in Love, A Man Apart, Waist Deep, Biker Boyz and Ray.
