With the casting nearly complete for the Kick Ass 2: Balls to the Wall, with every actor from the original coming back, the producers of the film have decided to make one casting change. The role of Marcus, who originally was played by Omari Hardwick, will now be played by Morris Chestnut.
According to Deadline, Chestnut landed the role where Marcus is the guardian for the young butt kicker played by Chloe Moretz, who’s reprising her role as Hit-Girl.
Aaron Johnson returns as Kick-Ass and Christopher Mintz-Plasse is coming back as the villainous Red Mist. John Leguizamo has joined the cast as well, playing Javier, the bodyguard assigned to protect Red Mist, while Donald Faison is Dr. Gravity. Yancy Butler is returning to reprise her role as the mother to Christopher Mintz-Plasse’s character.
Jeff Wadlow is directing the film, which will adapt the recent Kick-Ass 2 comic mini-series as well as Hit Girl, which is in the middle of its run. Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. write and draw the comics.
Chestnut has also been set for the male lead of Sony’s The Hive, opposite Halle Berry. He plays her love interest, a cop, in the Brad Anderson-directed thriller that also stars Abigail Breslin.
The Hive focuses on a 911 call center: a hub of frenzied activity where desperate phone calls come in. When a call comes in from Hyden (Breslin) a kidnapped teen who is stuffed a trunk, a veteran operator (Berry) takes the line, using her considerable skills to keep the girl calm, while trying feverishly to find the kidnapper before it’s too late.
Chestnut, a regular on last season’s FX drama American Horror story, just wrapped the Universal comedy ID Theft opposite Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy. He was last seen on screen in Think Like A Man. He’s repped by Gersh and Brian Wilkins.
