Last night, Blackfilm.com attended The Cinema Society with Circa and Alice & Olivia screening of ‘Sparkle’ at the Tribeca Grand Hotel in New York City.
In attendance were the cast of the film: Jordin Sparks, Tika Sumpter, Carmen Ejogo, Derek Luke, Mike Epps, Omari Hardwick and executive producer Debra Martin Chase.
Celebrities who were also at the screening included Sony’s SVP of Production DeVon Franklin, Andrew Saffir, Anthony Edwards, Heather Matarazzo, Smash’s Jamie Cepero, June Ambrose, Hilton Battle, Rutina Wesley, Stephen Balwin, S. Epatha Merkerson, Gabourey Sidibe, Isiah Whitlock Jr, Olympic medalist Cullen Jones, Russell Simmons, Montego Glover, Olympic Gymnastic medalist team Aly Raisman, McKayla Maroney, Jordyn Wieber, and Kyla Ross, Paloma Garcia-Lee, singer Isaiah Pittman, Sami Gayle, Stacey Bendet Eisner, Tonya Lewis Lee, Salman Rushdie, Hal Rubenstein, and Ariel Foxman.
After the screening, everyone headed over to the afterparty where Alizé COCO cocktails were served in the yard of the Soho Grand Hotel.
Opening nationwide on August 17th, Sparkle” tells the story of the title character; Sparkle, (Jordin Sparks) the youngest of three sisters and a music prodigy who struggles to becomes a star while overcoming issues that are tearing her family apart. Sparkle is from an affluent Detroit area, naive to the unexpected experiences her new life will bring as she and her two sisters blossom into a dynamic singing group during the Motown-era.
