Netflix hit series All American is looking to begin filming its third season Monday in Los Angeles. As is the case with any production during COVID, the dates are tentative and subject to change. Fingers crossed that the start date doesn’t get pushed back again!
The teen drama first aired on CW in October 2018 and returned for a second season in 2019. It wasn’t until Netflix started streaming the second season — around the same time most states in the US mandated people quarantine at home to prevent the spread of COVID — that the show skyrocketed in popularity, holding the No. 1 spot on the streaming service out of every other TV show and movie.
Inspired by the life of retired NFL player Spencer Paysinger, the series follows Spencer James (Daniel Ezra), a high school wide receiver and all-around football prodigy, who is recruited from his hometown of Crenshaw to play for the upper-class section of Los Angeles at Beverly High by Coach Billy Baker (played by Taye Diggs). In addition to drama both on and off the field, expect issues like racism, growing up with or without privilege, gang violence, substance abuse and more. The show was created by April Blair and is produced alongside Greg Berlanti and Rob Hardy.
