Netflix has announced the official premiere date for the upcoming second season of Gerard Way’s hit superhero series The Umbrella Academy which will see the return of the Hargreeves siblings following the first season finale’s time-travel cliffhanger. Season 2 is scheduled to make its debut on Friday, July 31.

In The Umbrella Academy, on the same day in 1989, 43 infants inexplicably are born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by a billionaire who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares his “children” to save the world. In the first season, we saw the six surviving members reunite when they learned of the passing of their father. Together, they worked to solve the mystery surrounding his death but the estranged family began to unravel due to their divergent personalities, abilities and a global apocalypse.

Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, and Justin H. Min will be reprising their roles of the titular group of unlikely heroes. Ritu Arya, Marin Ireland, and Yusuf Gatewood have joined the 10-episode sophomore season.
Gatewood will portray Raymond, a born leader with the smarts, gravitas, and the confidence to never have to prove it to anyone. He is warm, dedicated and has the innate ability to disarm you with a look. A devoted husband, he’s the kind of guy everyone wants to know.

The Umbrella Academy is based on the popular, Eisner award-winning comics and graphic novels created and written by Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance), illustrated by Gabriel Bá, and published by Dark Horse Comics.
The series is produced by Universal Cable Productions for Netflix. Steve Blackman (Fargo, Altered Carbon) will return as executive producer and showrunner for Season 2, with additional executive producers Jeff F. King (Hand of God), Bluegrass Television, and Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg from Dark Horse Entertainment. Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá will serve as co-executive producers.
