Last night, WGN America held its premiere for the second-season premiere of its hit original drama series Underground, which will air on 10 PM Wednesday, March 8.

Held at the Regency Village Theatre in Westwood, California, the entire cast along with creators and producers were in attendance.

The 10-episode Season 2 of Underground follows the struggle for freedom within a divided America on the brink of civil war, each side vying to enact their own justice. Set in the aftermath of the Macon 7’s daring attempt to stage the greatest escape in history, this group of American heroes continues on their harrowing journey to freedom, with legendary abolitionist Tubman blazing the trail.

The series returns cast members Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Rosalee), Aldis Hodge (Noah), Jessica de Gouw (Elizabeth Hawkes), Alano Miller‎ (Cato), Amirah Vann (Ernestine) and Christopher Meloni. Marc Blucas will continue guest-starring as John Hawkes.

Aisha Hinds will have a recurring role as Harriet Tubman, along with Chris Chalk as abolitionist William Still and Sadie Stratton as the notorious slave trader Patty Cannon. Other new members of the cast include Jasika Nicole as Georgia, an abolitionist with a covert station along the Underground; DeWanda Wise as Clara, a preacher’s daughter from an enslaved community; Bokeem Woodbine as Daniel, a skilled stonemason, who has decided to take freedom into his own hands; Michael Trotter as Biographer, an astute observer of people; Jesse Luken as Smoke, the second in command of an Patty Cannon’s infamous slave-catcher gang, and John Legend as Frederic Douglas.

Underground is created and written by Misha Green and Joe Pokaski, who serve as executive producers alongside Emmy-nominated director Anthony Hemingway, Oscar-winning writer Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind) of Weed Road Pictures; Tory Tunnell (King Arthur, Holy Rollers) and Joby Harold (King Arthur, Edge of Tomorrow) of Safehouse Pictures; and Legend, Mike Jackson and Ty Stiklorius of Get Lifted Film Co; and Mark Taylor (MadTV).
