Netflix has announced that it will premiere the Carmen Sandiego animated series on Friday, January 18.
Jane the Virgin‘s Gina Rodriguez will star in the titular role voicing Sandiego, as well as Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) as Sandiego’s chief accomplice and friend Player.
Criminal mastermind Carmen Sandiego was the star of a number of games, working against the ACME Detective Agency as the head of V.I.L.E. The games taught kids geography and history, math and English. The character has appeared in books and other products as well. Carmen is a thief and and considers her crimes to be a game. She was also part of the ’90s children’s game show Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?. The show famously had the a cappella band Rockapella as their house band. They performed the famous theme song “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?.”
