Sequel To ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ Begins Production

Nick Kondo, a lead animator at Sony Imageworks, has posted a tweet announcing that he’s begun his first day of work on Sony’s “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” sequel – confirming that production has begun on the follow-up to 2018’s acclaimed Oscar-winning feature. The film is slated for an October 7th 2022 release.

Joaquim Dos Santos (Voltron: Legendary Defenders) will direct the upcoming sequel. He will also be joined by screenwriter David Callaham, whose previous credits include Wonder Woman 1984 and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

The animated epic took in $350 million at the box office and introduced Miles Morales as Spider-Man to a new generation. Shameik Moore, star of The Get Down and Dope, voices Miles Morales in the film. He is joined by Liev Schreiber as Kingpin, Mahershala Ali as Miles’ Uncle Aaron, Brian Tyree Henry as Miles’ father Jefferson, Luna Lauren Velez as Miles’ mother Rio, Lily Tomlin as Aunt May, with Hailee Steinfeld as Spider-Gwen, Jake Johnson as Peter Parker along with Kimiko Glenn as SP//dr aka Peni Parker; comedian John Mulaney as Spider-Ham; and Nicolas Cage as Spider-Man Noir.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman. The script was written by Phil Lord, who produced the film along with Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, Christopher Miller, and Christina Steinberg.
