After month of speculation, the waiting is over as the cast for “Star Wars: Episode VII” has been announced through Disney and Lucasfilm.
Joining original stars Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker will be John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow.
“We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud,” stated director J.J. Abrams.
Disney chief Bob Iger said this latest installment will be set 30 years after 1983′s “Return of the Jedi” and will feature new and familiar faces.
Abrams and his producing partner Bryan Burk are producing through their Bad Robot banner with Kathleen Kennedy exec producing for Lucasfilm. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan wrote the script.
Boyega is in hot demand these days, having landing the role of Jesse Owens in the biopic Race. The British actor has also been added to the cast of Fox’s event series “24: Live Another Day” in a recurring role. He will later be seen opposite Chiwetel Ejiofor and Thandie Newton in ‘Half of a Yellow Sun.’ He also starred in the Sundance film, ‘Imperial Dreams,’ which won the Audience Award.
Star Wars: Episode VII will be released Dec. 18, 2015.
