Now that he has reached his Kickstarter goal of $1.25M, director Spike Lee is starting to putting together the cast for his new mystery film, currently titled “The Newest Hottest Spike Lee Joint.”
Having cast British actress Zaraah Abrahams in the female lead role, Lee announced that Stephen Tyrone Williams will play the male lead.
Ladies and Gentleman Mr. Stephen Tyrone Williams has been offered the Lead MALE Role in my New Spike Lee Joint. I first saw the fresh face and abundance of Talent at The Broadway Opening of the late Nora Ephron’s LUCKY GUY starring Tom Hanks Directed by My Main Man George Wolfe. Stephen’s performance as Abner Louima was haunting. The Opening Night Audience held their collective captive breath as he retells the terror of being sodomized with a Billy Club by one of New York’s Finest. At the After Party, I found Stephen and told him how much I enjoyed his performance and God Willing One day we would be able to work together. Well, that day is here. Stephen Tyrone Williams is gonna do his THANG. And That’s The Bloody Truth Ruth.
As Lee mentioned, Williams was not only sharing the stage with Tom Hanks in “Lucky Guy”, but the University of Alabama grad was recently cast opposite Denzel Washington in the upcoming 2014 Broadway revival of Lorraine Hansberry‘s “A Raisin in the Sun.” Directed by Kenny Leon, the play also stars Sophie Okenedo, Anika Noni Rose, Jason Dirden, and Stephen McKinley Henderson. His film credits include the HBO film Phil Spector, Greetings from Tim Buckley, Andrew Dosunmu’s Restless City, and Children of God.
As for the plot, the only thing Lee has stated so far is, “I have never made a film like this and it excites me very much. I’m doing a semi-genre film about ADDICTION. These people are ADDICTED to BLOOD. Yet however they are not VAMPIRES. It’s going to be SEXY, HUMOROUS and BLOODY. To me that’s a unique combination.”
