Actress Storm Reid (Euphoria, A Wrinkle In Time) will be joining the cast of HBO’s latest series, The Last of Us, starring Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) and Bella Ramsey (The Worst Witch). Deadline released the news today. The series is an adaptation of a popular 2013 PlayStation game of the same name. The Last Of Us was created by Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin (Chernobyl).
The Last of Us, is a post-apocalyptic story taking place 20 years after a deadly virus has destroyed the earth. Hardened survivor, Joel (Pascal), is hired to smuggle 14 year-old Ellie (Ramsey), out of an oppressive quarantine zone to the Fireflies, a cure-searching organization. What is meant to be a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival. The award-winning game was created by gaming house Naughty Dog. Druckmann and Mazin write and executive produce the series. Carolyn Strauss serves as executive producer along with Naughty Dog president Evan Wells, Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan of PlayStation Productions and Rose Lam.
Ried will be guest-starring as Riley Abel, a, orphaned young girl living in post-apocalyptic Boston. Loyal to the original game, Riley will accompany and fight for survival with best friend Ellie before meeting Joel.
Also starring in The Last of Us is Nico Parker, Gabriel Luna, Jeffrey Pierce, Murray Bartlett, Anna Torv, Nick Offerman, and TLOU voice actress Merle Dandrige.
A co-production with Sony Pictures Television, Beanpole director, Kantemir Balagov, will be directing the pilot episode. Producing the series are PlayStation Productions, Word Games, The Mighty Mint and Naughty Dog, based on the PlayStation exclusive video game from Naughty Dog.
Storm Reid will be adding The Last of Us series to her ever-growing list of credits which include HBO series Euphoria, Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time, Suicide Squad and The Invisible Man. Upcoming, Reid is set to star in the new series of the Searching franchise, One Way and Darby Harper Wants You To Know.
