Tessa Thompson is starring in “Sylvie’s Love”, premiering Dec. 25, 2020 on Prime Video. A romance set in New York City that spans over time and to the backdrop of Jazz, tells the story of Sylvie (Tessa Thompson) and Robert (Nnamdi Asomugha) as the two navigate their careers in television and music.
Sylvie helps her father at his record shop in the summer of 1957, dreaming of a career in television while she awaits her fiancé’s return from war. Robert, a saxophonist who spends his nights playing in a jazz quartet, coincidentally finds part time work at the record store during the same summer. The two end up in a friendship that soon leads to love cut short by their careers. After years pass, the two cross paths once more, realizing that while their lives have gone in different directions, their feelings remain the same.
Eugene Ashe writes and directs this fusion of love and music that highlights changing times, a changing culture, and the true price of love. Alongside the duo, “Sylvie’s Love” will also star Eva Longoria, Aja Naomi King, Wendi Mclendon-Covey, and Jemima Kirke.
