Deadline is reporting that Taraji P. Henson has signed on to play a hit woman in Screen Gems’ “Proud Mary.” written by John Stewart Newman and Christian Swegal.
Henson will play a hit woman whose life is turned completely around when she meets a young boy who awakens in her a maternal instinct she never knew she had. Screen Gems will set a director quickly.
Paul Schiff and Tai Duncan are producing the film, which is slated to start production in April in Boston.
Henson is currently on the big screen playing mathematician Katherine Johnson in the critically acclaimed “Hidden Figures.” She also stars as Cookie Lyon on Fox TV’s hit series “Empire.”
She last starred for Screen Gems in “No Good Deed,” “Think Like A Man” and “Think Like a Man Too.”
Henson is represented by UTA and Vincent Cirrincione Associates. Newman is represented by WME. Swegal is represented by The Gersh Agency.
