The Black Cast Members In The ‘Gossip Girl’ Reboot

The teen drama with a cult like following – Gossip Girl – is receiving a reboot and noticeably has more black faces than the original. The shows official Instagram page revealed the new characters that will be featured in the HBO Max reboot. The Instagram posts showcase the new characters dressed in true Gossip Girl fashion – in fashionable threads fit for a lavish night on the NYC streets. The captions simply reveal the character’s names and defining personality trait. Whitney Peak is Zoya Lott and her favoring characteristic is perspective. Savannah Smith will be playing Monet de Haan who values power. Jordan Alexander is playing Julien Calloway and her leading characteristic is influence.

The new show takes place eight years after the original website went dark and a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl. The series will address just how much social media — and the landscape of New York itself — has changed in the intervening years. Joshua Safran – the writer for the original show – is also penning the new series which is based on the book by Cecily von Ziegesar. Nice For What and P-Valley director, Karena Evans, is directing the first two episodes of the show.

Fake Empire and Alloy Entertainment are producing the series alongside Warner Bros. Television and CBS Studios. Executive producing the project is Safran for Random Acts, Fake Empire’s Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, and Alloy Entertainment’s Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo.
