The feature film selection has been announced for the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival! This year marks the 20th anniversary of the formative festival held in New York’s Tribeca neighborhood. The festival skipped a year of film due to the Coronavirus pandemic, however, will be returning for in-person viewings and events for those who chose to attend. Black Films 2021 Tribeca
From a statement on the festivals official site:
“After a year of closed cinemas, canceled gatherings, and virtual everything, it is with joy and hope that we finally invite New Yorkers out of their homes and back to the movies. Immersed in the city itself, Tribeca 2021 will bring once-in-a-lifetime big-screen experiences to filmmakers and audiences alike as we reconnect, re-imagine, and reopen through the shared experience of film,” said Cara Cusumano, Festival Director and Vice President of Programming for the Tribeca Festival.
The festival will take place from June 9 – June 20 showcasing 66 feature films from filmmakers around the world with 54 world premieres. The 2021 fest will also mark the festivals most diverse lineup with 60% of this year’s films being directed by women, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ filmmakers. Films that were meant to premiere at the 2020 festival, but postponed due to COVID-19, will also screen this year. Ghanaian-American Sarah is all set to abandon her Ivy League doctoral program to follow her married lover across the country.
