GMC, America’s favorite channel for inspirational music and family entertainment, today announced the world television premiere of playwright John Ruffin’s hit stage play “The Ideal Husband” starring Darrin Dewitt Henson (Stomp the Yard, Soul Food), Erica Hubbard (“Let’s Stay Together,” Akeelah & The Bee), Shirley Murdock (“Love Me or Leave Me”) and R&B artist Ginuwine. Filled with heartwarming humor, inspiring songs and the healing power of faith, “The Ideal Husband” is an unforgettable musical theater experience premiering exclusively on GMC on Saturday, February 26th at 7:00 p.m. ET with encore broadcasts at 9:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.

Tracey Malone (Shanti Lowry) is overjoyed at finally being able to have her first child after eight years of marriage. Her husband Devin (Henson), sidelined from the NFL by an injury, is eager to be a father as he builds up his strength and plans his return to the game. Despite financial stresses, Devin and Tracey’s life is a happy one until their stability is rocked by a secret from the past. Tracey questions whether her world—and her husband—are as ideal as she once thought, and is forced to take stock of her marriage, her husband and her own heart as she searches for a way to maintain faith in herself, in their marriage and in their future. A life-affirming comedy written and directed by John Ruffin (“Love Me or Leave Me”), “The Ideal Husband” also stars Clifton Powell (Ray, “Army Wives”), and Jackee Harry (“Everybody Hates Chris,” “227,” “Sister Sister”).

‘“The Ideal Husband” brings endearing characters to life in a story that combines real-world heartache with joyous laughter,” says Leslie Chesloff, executive vice president of programming at GMC. “It’s lively and fun, with terrific characters forced into compelling conflicts everyone can relate to and features songs that range from poignant to rollicking. We are very pleased to share ‘The Ideal Husband’ with our viewers.”

“The Ideal Husband” is the second in a series of Gospel stage plays produced exclusively for broadcast on GMC, the only network to showcase the popular medium. The first, John Ruffin’s “Love Me or Leave Me,” premiered on the network in November 2010.

Writer-Director Ruffin’s previous theatrical writing credits include “Love Me or Leave Me,” “I Won’t Go Back,” “It’s Too Good To Be True,” “We’re Dreaming of You, Selena,” “The Other Woman,” “All for Love,” “No More Sheets,” and “Mr. Right Now or Mr. Wrong Later.” Ruffin also directed and produced a bi-weekly variety show, “Gospeltime, Live at The Legacy.”

The GMC broadcast of “The Ideal Husband” is produced by Swirl Films. Swirl’s Eric Tomosunas has produced and taped numerous stage plays and feature-length films for television and DVD including “Love Me or Leave Me,” “Love for Sale,” “A Mother’s Prayer” and “There’s a Stranger in My House.”

“The Ideal Husband” premiere’s on GMC on Saturday, February 26th at 7:00 p.m. ET with encore broadcasts at 9:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
