ABC News hosted the 2024 presidential debate in Philadelphia at the National Constitution Center (525 Arch St., Philadelphia, PA 19106) on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 9:00 p.m. EDT. “The ABC News Presidential Debate | Race for the White House” was produced in conjunction with the ABC Owned Television Station WPVI-TV/6ABC and aired on ABC and stream on 24/7 streaming network ABC News Live, Disney+ and Hulu. “World News Tonight” anchor and managing editor David Muir and ABC News Live “Prime” anchor Linsey Davis served as moderators.
The primetime pre-debate special, “Race for the White House,” was anchored by chief global affairs correspondent and “This Week” co-anchor Martha Raddatz, chief Washington correspondent and “This Week” co-anchor Jonathan Karl, chief White House correspondent Mary Bruce and senior congressional correspondent Rachel Scott and premiered at 8:00 p.m. EDT.
With most political analysts and media polls highlighting Vice President Kamala Harris as the clear winner of the night, the two candidates went toe-to-toe leaving drastically different impressions on viewers. VP Harris began the night with an strong approach as she crossed the room to shake hands and greet Donald Trump. The move put her into a power position and seemingly began the process of throwing the former president off balance.
Standout moments have flooded social media with most highlighting VP Harris’s firm and confident posture as she challenged Trump on policy positions which often baited him into conspiracy theory based rants on topics like migrant workers eating pets in Springfield, OH.
Some Hollywood stars were quick to post their take on the evening of events with the most notable coming from mega star Taylor Swift who signed off her post “With love and hope, Taylor Swift, Childless Cat Lady” in response to the infamous statement made by Republican VP candidate JD Vance.
