UK soccer star, Thierry Henry, is set to play himself in the UK soccer drama Day 1’s. Henry will not only act, but also executive produce on the project with Darren Dein, his long-time agent. Entourage creator and director, Doug Ellin, created the project alongside Mad About You producer, Chris Case. The two will also serve as co-showrunners for the series. The show will mark the first tv series to come from Matthew Vaughn’s (Kingsman: The Secret Service) production company, Marv.
The 10 part series follows Dezmond King, a young footballer, and his group of friends as they experience life’s changes with his growing fame and accompanying problems. Vaughn will direct the pilot and is set to begin production in 2021.
In a Deadline article, Henry was quoted saying ““Entourage was one of my favorite TV shows and when Doug invited me on set to film my brief cameo appearance in the movie, I never would have thought that I would be part of bringing a new TV show to life. I’m also incredibly excited that Matthew Vaughn has agreed to bring his vast expertise and knowledge to the series along with many more extremely talented individuals. Hopefully I can share some of my experiences as this topic is much closer to my heart.”
Thierry Henry is considered to be Premier League’s (England’s professional soccer league) greatest player in history with a career spanning over almost two decades. The french born athlete has played for numerous top teams including; Monaco, Juventus, Arsenal, Barcelona, and the New York Red Bulls. He won France the 1998 World Cup and has won French Player of the Year a record five times. He was also a member of the 2006 FIFA World Cup All-Star Team. After retiring from international soccer after the 2010 FIFA World Cup, Henry went on to coach for Monaco in 2018 and has been managing for the Montreal Impact since 2019.
