Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first trailer from screenwriter Andrea Berloff’s directorial debut, the crime drama “The Kitchen” starring Melissa McCarthy, Tiffany Haddish, and Elisabeth Moss.
An adaptation of the DC/Vertigo comic by Ollie Masters, the story is set in New York’s Hell’s Kitchen in the late 1970s and follows the wives of Irish mobsters. When said mobsters are sent to prison by the FBI, the women step in and take over – proving unexpectedly adept at everything from running the rackets to taking out the competition.

McCarthy is Kathy, an adoring mother who leads the charge. Haddish is Ruby O’Carroll, a woman willing to kill anyone who gets in her way. Moss is Claire Walsh, a timid wife of an abusive husband who eventually starts to fall in love with the violence that starts to take over her life.
Domhnall Gleeson, Common, James Badge Dale, Brian d’Arcy James, Myk Watford, Margo Martindale, Bill Camp and Jeremy Bobb co-star
Common plays FBI agent Gary Silvers. Dale will play Kevin O’Carroll, a mob boss married to Ruby (Haddish). Bobb is Rob Walsh, a violent mobster married to Claire (Moss), and Watford will portray Little Jackie, who initially assumes control of one of the mob crews after his boss is sent to prison.
Produced by Michael De Luca, The Kitchen hits theaters on August 9.
