Netflix has released the trailer to its upcoming documentary series “Bobby Kennedy For President,” directed and executive produced by Dawn Porter (“Gideon’s Army,” “Trapped”). The film will have its World Premiere at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival on April 25th, followed a global launch on Netflix on April 27th.
The series marks the 50th Anniversary of Robert F. Kennedy’s Historic 83-day Presidential Run.
Robert F. Kennedy’s passion and vision helped his brother John get elected president, sparked a country’s conscience, guided the nation through terrifying crises, and inspired a generation. In the decade before his assassination at age 42, as Attorney General, a United States Senator, and a candidate for President, RFK also riled the establishment as he sharpened his political acumen, and challenged America to become the best version of itself.
Told through rare and never-before-seen footage, director Dawn Porter’s four-part documentary series BOBBY KENNEDY FOR PRESIDENT examines the “Bobby Phenomenon” of the 1960s and the continuing influence of the man many see as the greatest loss of a troubling and turbulent era.
According to Variety, Porter was originally approached in 2015 to direct a docu about Robert F. Kennedy assassin Sirhan Sirhan’s ongoing legal case. But after doing research she discovered aspects of Kennedy’s life that were intriguing. Porter wanted to share her findings.
“There is so much to his career and life that isn’t talked about,” Porter said. “Also there’s really not a soup-to-nuts Bobby Kennedy piece. There is a lot on his death, but I didn’t want to just focus on his death because so often when we talk about Bobby Kennedy we focus on the assassination or we focus on his relationship with JFK. This series is about a story that you think you know, but you don’t really know.”
“Bobby Kennedy For President” is produced by RadicalMedia, Trilogy Films, and LooksFilm.
