Netflix has released the trailer to “Amateur,” starring Michael Rainey Jr., Sharon Leal, Ashlee Brian, Corey Parker Robinson with Brian White and Josh Charles. The films will be air on Netflix on April 6.
Directed by Sundance Screenwriting Lab alum Ryan Koo and also based on his 2013 short film of the same name, the film centers on 14-year-old basketball phenom Terron Forte (Rainey Jr.), whose highlight video goes viral only to find himself struggling to fit in with the older high schoolers on his new team. He then must defeat his greatest rival yet — his new coach (Charles).
Jason Michael Berman is producing for Mandalay Pictures alongside Chip Hourihan, with Netflix financing and taking global distribution. Michael Finley, Tony Parker, Jill Ahrens, Ryan Ahrens, Ben Renzo and Caroline Connor serve as executive producers. The film also marks the feature film debut for rising director Koo.
Michael Rainey Jr. is a season regular on Starz network’s hit drama series “POWER.” Michael plays Tariq St. Patrick, the son of the lead Ghost.
