Tribeca 2019: Photos From Showtime’s Wu-Tang: Of Mics And Men Afterparty

Last night, Blackfilm.com attended the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival NY Premiere of WU-TANG: OF MICS AND MEN as part of the Tribeca TV section.

Held at the Beacon Theater, all 9 members of WU-TANG (RZA, GZA, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Ghostface Killah, Method Man, Raekwon da Chef, Masta Killa, & Cappadonnawere in attendance and after the screening electrified the audience with a performance that lasted over 30 minutes. Most of the their classics tunes were from Protect Ya Neck to M.E.T.H.O.D Man to CREAM.

Hosted by Status Sparkling Wines, the afterparty was held at Ascent Lounge (10 Columbus Circle) were notable rappers and celebrities such as Nas, Aldis Hodge, Steve Stoute, and rapper Havoc from Mobb Deep, Ryan Jamaal Swain, Lauren E. Banks, Amanda Clayton, David Krumholtz came by to support.

WU-TANG CLAN: OF MICS AND MEN is the four-part limited docuseries from filmmaker Sacha Jenkins.The full series will air on SHOWTIME later this spring.

As the group marks the 25th anniversary of their breakout debut album Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), the series looks back on their career, combining intimate and reflective interviews from each of the nine living members with never-before-seen archival footage and performances. The series follows the founding members – RZA, GZA, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Inspectah Deck, Raekwon the Chef, U-God, Ghostface Killah, Method Man, Masta Killa and Cappadonna – many of whom were childhood friends in the hardscrabble world of ’70s and ’80s Staten Island and Brooklyn. Their ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit brought them together to overcome the poverty, violence and oppression of their neighborhoods. But it was music and their shared lyrical genius that allowed them to form the most recognized musical movement in the world, all while walking the treacherous tightrope that links business with brotherhood.
