Fox joins a cast that includes Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher and Charlotte Gainsbourg. Goldblum and Fox were part of the 1996 original. Usher will play her son in the film. Will Smith is not expected to return to the sequel and talks are ongoing with Bill Pullman for him to reprise his role. He played U.S. President Thomas J. Whitmore.
Carter Blanchard is rewriting the script. Emmerich will produce the film along with Devlin and Harald Kloser.
The original Independence Day opened on July 3, 1996 and earned an impressive $817.4 million worldwide.
Fox was last seen in Black November. Her previous film credits include Set It Off, Soul Food, Two Can Play That Game and Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2, and Syfy‘s Sharknado 2: The Second One.
