First Date, a film by Manuel Crosby & Darren Knapp, recently released its official trailer. The rom-com with lots of surprising twists made its world premier at this years Sundance Film Festival in the Next feature category. The film is headed up by newcomers Tyson Brown and Shelby Duclos which is headed to theaters and On Demand on July 2.
First Date follows shy teen Mike (Brown) after he’s been conned into buying a shady ‘65 Chrysler before his eagerly-anticipated first date with the girl-next-door, Kelsey (Duclos). Mike’s day and date implodes as he finds himself targeted by criminals, cops, and a crazy cat lady. A night fueled by desire, bullets and burning rubber makes any other first date seem like a walk in the park. Writing and directing duo Manuel Crosby and Darren Knapp’s action comedy also stars with support from Jesse Janzen (Gila!), Nicole Berry (Before the Dark), Samuel Ademola (Fresh Juice Podcast), Ryan Quinn Adams (President Evil), Angela Barber (Fire on the Ridge), Dave Reimer (Livin’ by the Gun), Jake Howard (Twisted), Samantha Laurenti (The Other Girl), Scott Noble (The War at Home), Leah Finity (Last Words), Josh Fesler (Breaking News), and Brandon Kraus (Jolted 2).
Crosby and Knapp commented on the film saying:
‘We wanted to make an independent flick, the kind that had a certain kinship to many of our favorites from the 90s and early 2000s, but that still felt exciting and fresh. Something with youthful energy, but also with bite to it. Something that could mix comedy, suspense, romance and violence while feeling like a natural blend. Kinda like mixing all the different sodas at the soda fountain. You’re not supposed to do it but damn, it’s a sugar rush. Something that would allow us to play with special effects and spotlight a unique ensemble cast. And also something that we would have seen when we were just getting into filmmaking, and been stoked about.’
