Complex has posted the trailer to writer-director Matthew A. Cherry’s 9 Rides, which will have its World Premiere at the SXSW Festival on March 11.
Featuring Dorian Missick, Omar Dorsey, Robinne Lee, Xosha Roquemore, Amin Joseph, Skye P. Marshall, Thomas Q. Jones, Tracie Thoms, Aasha Davis, and Sujata Day, the follows an Uber driver (Missick) on New Year’s Eve picking up nine different groups of passengers, each helping him cope with life-changing news.
This is the first feature film shot exclusively with the new iPhone 6s. “Most of the film takes place in a car, so we decided early on that shooting it on iPhones would give us the most freedom,” stated cinematographer Richard Vialet.
Cherry stated in a press release early this year that “The film was shot without a conventional script so it was important to work with actors who were comfortable with being asked to improv, and they all delivered.”
“Nine Rides” is produced by Jerome Caldwell of JCaldwell Productions, Matthew Keene Smith of Twice Told Films, and Datari Turner from Datari Turner Productions.
Cherry’s previous film was “The Last Fall” with Lance Gross and Nicole Beharie. That film also premiered at SXSW.
