The Hollywood Reporter is stating that Wendell Pierce (The Wire, Selma) is set to play Judge Clarence Thomas opposite Kerry Washington, who will play Anita Hill, in a film for HBO. Rick Famuyiwa (Sundance hit Dope, The Wood) is in talks to direct the pic
Titled “Confirmation,” the film will detail the explosive 1991 Clarence Thomas-Hill Supreme Court nomination hearings, which brought the country to a standstill and forever changed the way people think about sexual harassment, victims’ rights and modern-day race relations.
Academy Award nominated writer Susannah Grant (Erin Brockovich) will pen the script and executive produce the drama, which is being produced by Groundswell Productions in association with ABC Signature Studios. Groundswell CEO Michael London (ABC’s upcoming soap Astronaut Wives Club) and production president Janice Williams will executive produce alongside Grant and star Washington.
Pierce currently co-stars on CBS’ The Odd Couple reboot, and is set to reprise his role on the upcoming third season of Showtime’s Ray Donovan. He will next be seen in Joel Edgerton’s The Gift. He was last seen playing Hosea Williams, the SCLC leader who led the first Selma march over the Edmund Pettus Bridge on Bloody Sunday, in Ava DuVernay’s Oscar nominated film, Selma.
