About Last Night poster

A remake of the 1986 Edward Zwick film that starred Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, James Belushi and Elizabeth Perkins, this version of “About Last Night” is actually better and funnier than the previous film thanks to the great chemistry between one half of the leads (Kevin Hart and Regina Hart). When these two hit the scene, prepare to start laughing out loud.

Set in LA, Danny (Ealy) and Bernie (Hart) are two single men who work together, hang out, and pick up women. One evening, Danny meets Debbie (Bryant) at a bar, start talking and before the sun comes up, a one night stand may present possibilities and complications. At the same time, Bernie and his lady friend Joan (Hall) are hooking up and know for now that is the status they want, no commitment.

As Danny wants to explore this relationship with Debbie, changes occur. He quits his job, looks for work, and treats Debbie to the highlights of LA. She, on the other hand, thinks it’s too much and too soon and may need time to catch her breath. Meanwhile, Bernie doesn’t realize how much Joan is taking away some of his swagger from being a ladies’ man. After bickering left and right, these two don’t know if they are meant for each other.

Although the script comes with the typical boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy regains girl plot devices, the actors and direction keep the audience entertained enough to see how it will play out. Ealy and Bryant are two natural beauties who shined together and present a natural chemistry as a on-screen couple. Hart and Hall, who were both in Scary Movie 3 & 4, Death at a Funeral, and Think Like a Man but never together are just great and hilarious together. Really, these two compliment each other with their jokes and hopefully we can see them paired again. Their combustible energy keeps the film from being a dull romantic comedy.

Released on Valentine’s Day, “About Last Night” is a pleasurable date movie that should entertain its intended audience.
