Alexandra Shipp, who recently starred as R & B singer Aaliyah in the Lifetime biopic Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B, has been cast as the younger version of the comic book character Storm in Bryan Singer’s “X-Men: Apocalypse.” 

She joins Tye Sheridan and Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner, who will play the younger versions of Cyclops and Jean Grey, respectively.

The trio along with Oscar Issac, who was previously cast as the titular villain in the comic book movie, join “X-Men” veterans Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult and Michael Fassebender for the next installment.

In the previous X-Men films, Storm, Jean Grey and Cyclops were played by Halle Berry, Famke Janssen and James Marsden respectively.

Best known playing KT Rush on the show “House of Anubis” on Nickelodeon, Shipp also had a starring role in the VH1 film “Drumline: A New Beat,” the sequel to the 2000 Nick Cannon film. She can be seen next in “Straight Outta Compton.”

Sheridan, who has has starred in The Tree of Life, Mud and Joe, can be seen next in the Sundance pic “The Stanford Prison Experiment,” and Turner continues to appear as Sansa Stark on HBO’s “Game of Thrones.”

X-Men: Apocalypse is expected to begin shooting in April and the film is scheduled to hit theaters on May 27, 2016.
