Algee Smith Joins Cast Of HBO’s Teen Drama Series Euphoria Starring ZendayaPosted by Wilson Morales

Deadline is reporting Algee Smith (Detroit, The Hate U Give) and Austin Abrams (The Walking Dead) have joined the cast of Euphoria, HBO’s teen drama starring Zendaya.
Executive produced by Drake and Future the Prince, Smith will be replacing and taking over the role of McKay from Brian “Astro” Bradley, who played the part in the pilot. Abrams will portray Ethan.
Zendaya is set to lead the cast of the series, which is based on the Israeli “Kids-meets-Trainspotting” teen drama series. Euphoria revolves around the story of drugs, sex, identity, trauma, social media, love and friendship all told by a lying, drug addicted 17-year-old girl named Rue, to be played by Zendaya.
Augustine Frizzell will be the director/co-executive producer.
The pilot, to be written by Sam Levinson, also has Maude Apatow as Lexi, Brian “Astro” Bradley as McKay, Angus Cloud as Fezco, Eric Dane as Cal, Alexa Demie as Maddy, Jacob Elordi as Nate, Barbie Ferreira as Kat, Nika King as Leslie, Storm Reid as Gia, Hunter Schafer as Jules, and Sydney Sweeney as Cassie.
All episodes of of the series are being written by Sam Levinson, who will also serve as executive producer. In addition to Levinson, Drake, Future the Prince, Ron Leshem, and Daphna Levin, the other executive producers on the series are: Ravi Nandan, Kevin Turen, Hadas Mozes Lichtenstein, Tmira Yardeni, Mirit Toovi, Yoram Mokadi, and Gary Lennon. A24 Television is producing.
Smith’s recent credits include the role of Ralph Tresvant on The New Edition Story and follow-up The Bobby Brown Story. On the big screen, Smith can currently be seen in The Hate U Give. He’s repped by Indigo Production Group, WME and Stone, Genow.
