Babou Ceesay, British actor and star of UK tv series Guerrilla, is set to star in Sky’s new crime drama Wolfe. Shameless creator, Paul Abbott, is responsible for Wolfe and will pen the series with a team of writers. Set to co-star are; Shaniqua Okwok (Small Axe), Naomi Yang (The Salisbury Poisonings), Adam Long (Vera), Amanda Abbington (Sherlock), and Natalia Tena (Harry Potter). The six-part show is being produced by Abbott’s banner, AbbottVision.
Ceesay will play the brilliantly flawed forensic pathologist Professor Wolfe Kinteh. Wolfe has proven to be a mercurial genius when it comes to piecing together evidence, but is prone to being a liability and has been kicked out of his family home by his wife, Val (Tena). Alongside Wolfe are the vivid characters in his life; child prodigy Maggy (Yang), middle-aged single mom Dot (Abbington), team entomologist Steve (Long), and new recruit Dominique (Okwok), who has a dark past that brings her into conflict with Wolfe.
According to Deadline Sky One has been on the hunt for a procedural series, said to have been inspired by popular 90’s UK detective series Cracker.
In the same article, Abbot exclaimed that he “loved creating the character of Wolfe. I dredged a lot of my own flaws to get him onto the page. I can’t think of anyone better than Babou to breathe life into the guy.”
Ceesay is best known for his roles in Rogue One and Guerrilla. On the TV side, the actor has credits on the well known UK shows Luther, Law & Order: UK, and Getting On. The actor was nominated for Best Actor at the 63rd British Academy Television Awards for his work on Damilola; Our Loved Boy, a British TV film about the November 2000 death of Damilola Taylor. Ceesay can currently be seen on the Gaby Hull drama, We Hunt Together, on the British network Alibi.
