Don Cheadle will return to Showtime in the dark comedy Black Monday for its third season. Co-produced by Sony Pictures and Showtime, a ten episode order will begin production next year and is set to premier in the 2021 season.
Black Monday details the stock market crash of 1987 – one of the worst in the history of Wall Street. An unlikely group takes on the blue-blood Wall Street club, destroying the market, a Lamborghini limousine and the glass ceiling. This outlandish comedy stars Don Cheadle (Mo Monroe), Regina Hall (Dawn Darcey), Andrew Rannells (Blair Pfaff) , and Paul Scheer (Keith Shankar). The series’ second season was slightly disrupted by Covid-19, as the network wanted to air back to back episodes each week, then only airing one per week.
Don Cheadle spoke with Deadline ensuring that they have a lot to work with in terms of storyline on season 3. The actor says, “I think we can go anywhere. But as far as where the characters are going to go, who knows? Mo is sitting over his empire; he’s got spray paint on the wall. Blair has a dead senator in the background of his life. [Keith Shankar], he’s in jail. Dawn takes the whole hit for the stock market crash. I think once again we’re blown out of the water, so who knows.”
The series was created by David Caspe and Jordan Cahan; also serving as executive producers and showrunners. Cheadle, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are executive producing. Don Cheadle was nominated for an Emmy for his role in the show.
