“A disruptive and unstoppable force of a message from the man in black himself,” Johnson says in the post that captured New York’s Times Square featuring a Black Adam virtual teaser. “The hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change.”
This announcement comes after it was revealed that Pierce Brosnan would play the role of Dr. Fate and Aldis Hodge would portray Hawkman.

‘Black Adam,’ is set to hit movie theaters on July 29, 2022.
Black Adam marks the second New Line/DC film following 2019’s hit Shazam!, with the two characters, Shazam and Black Adam, known as arch enemies in the DC Universe. Production on the film is slated to begin in April in Atlanta. Johnson produced Shazam! with his Seven Bucks Productions partners Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia and Geoff Johns. Watch trailer below!
While that’s over a year and some change away, here’s a bit more information on the character to keep you excited until then. Blackfilm.com put together a host of everything you should know information about the anti-hero before he appears on the big screen.
There are two individuals that make up ‘Black Adam’: Teth-Adam, his original form, and Theo Adam, his descendant. It’s complicated. Teth-Adam is from ancient Egypt in the DC continuity, however, in the modern world, his home country has been switched to the fictional country Kahndaq. The ’94 comic book series The Power of Shazam! showed Teth-Adam as being the son of the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses II, and after impressing the Shazam, he was given the ability to become the superhuman Mighty Adam.
Mighty Adam used his amazing abilities to protect Egypt but he was later corrupted by a woman named Blaze, Shazam’s daughter, and went rogue, to become Black Adam.
Black Adam calls upon his powers the same away the Captain Marvel and Shazam does: by shouting the word “Shazam.” He hates people who hurt and enslave others for greed, power, self-satisfaction and he will do everything to make sure that justice reigns supreme and oppression is eliminated.
Sounds like our type of hero or anti-hero.
