Erin Kellyman to Star in ‘Willow’ for Disney+

British actress Erin Kellyman is in talks to join the trio of female leads in the upcoming Disney+ series Willow. The series is a venture between Disney+ and Lucasfilm as a follow up to the 1988 film of the same title. The show will also include the original star of the film, Warwick Davis, in his title role. The Solo: A Star Wars Story writer and co-producer, Jonathan Kasdan, wrote the pilot and will serve as co-showrunner for the series. Showrunning alongside Kasdan are Wendy Mericle and  Jon M. Chu who are also directing the pilot episode. Producing the series are Lucasfilm’s, Bob Dolman and Ron Howard – who directed the original 1988 flick.

In the original film, Warwick Davis plays Willow Ufgood, a reluctant farmer who leads a ragtag crew on a quest to protect a special baby from a tyrannical queen who vows to destroy her. The series picks up years after the events of the film, reintroducing Davis as the series hero while introducing brand new characters to the magical world where dream and reality live side by side. Princess Kit’s (Spaeny) twin brother has been kidnapped and is joined by Dove (Bamber), an unassuming kitchen maid, and Kit’s best friend, moral compass and servant – Jade (Kellyman) – to make the journey to save Kit’s brother. Dove, Kit, and Jade’s destiny are revealed along the journey with Dove proving she’s the “chosen one”, Kit revealing herself to be a leader and ultimately the queen, and Jade becoming the best young warrior in the kingdom. Rounding out the group is a known thief and liar, who joins the journey as a way to barter himself out of prison.

The series marks Kellyman’s second time working with Lucasfilm, Kasdan and Howard, as she starred as Enfys Nest in Solo: A Star Wars Story. The actress has also starred in BBC2’s black comedy, Don’t Forget the Driver and BBC1’s non-musical adaptation of Victor Hugo’s epic Les Misérables. She can currently be seen as Maya Stone in the BBC series Life.
