Exclusive Clip: Watch David Alan Grier Make His Debut on Tonight’s The Resident

Tonight marks the debut of veteran actor David Alan Grier on Season 3 of Fox’s medical drama, The Resident.

The upcoming third season will see Red Rock Mountain Medical being taken over Chastain Memorial Hospital and as the doctors are faced with the biggest corrupting influence of money in health care, with the courageous young physicians putting their futures and careers on the line to stop “profit over patients.”

Grier will have a recurring role as Lamar Broome, Dr. AJ Austin’s biological father.

Broome is a larger than life businessman with a prideful manner and substantial ego, not unlike the son he gave up 35 years ago for adoption, Dr. AJ Austin (Malcolm Jamal Warner). Lamar is desperate to reconnect after he is diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. Lamar is desperate to reconnect with AJ, hoping to find a love and connection that he lacks with the children he raised.

Grier’s TV credits include Fox’s one-and-done comedy The Cool Kids, as well as Queen Sugar, Catastrophe and The Carmichael Show.

The Resident is a powerful medical drama focusing on the final years of a young doctor’s training that rips back the curtain to reveal the truth of what really happens, both good and bad, in hospitals across the country. Starring Matt Czuchry, Emily VanCamp, Manish Dayal, Moran Atias, Merrin Dungey and Shaunette Renée Wilson, Malcolm Jamal Warner with Melina Kanakaredes and Bruce Greenwood.

In tonight’s episode, Cain tries to recruit Bell and Kit to join him on a dangerous surgery, with the intent of garnering publicity for the hospital. Meanwhile, the Raptor finds himself with an emotional attachment to a patient whose life is put in his hands and Mina’s friend, Adaku (guest star Erinn Westbrook), arrives at the hospital with shocking news. Also, Devon rotates out of the ER and Nic plans a surprise for Conrad.
